Frequently asked questions

horoscopes

What is my horoscope today?

Your horoscope today is a short reading for your zodiac sign based on where the Sun, Moon and planets are right now. Choose your sign to read today’s forecast; for a more personal view, you can also read the forecast for your Rising sign.

How are your horoscopes written?

Our horoscopes are generated from real daily planetary positions computed with an astronomical engine, composed into readings and reviewed before publishing. Keep in mind that a general Sun-sign forecast applies to everyone of that sign, so it will always be broader than a personalised reading based on your own birth chart.

Should I read my Sun sign or my Rising sign horoscope?

You can read both. Your Sun sign forecast speaks to your core identity, while your Rising sign forecast often maps today’s planetary movements more closely onto the areas of your life, because the Rising sign sets up your houses.

basics

What is a rising sign?

Your rising sign, or ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact time and place you were born. It describes your instinctive approach to life and the first impression you tend to make, and it changes roughly every two hours.

What are the Sun, Moon and Rising signs?

They are the three most personal points in a birth chart. The Sun describes your core identity, the Moon your emotional needs, and the Rising sign your outward style and approach to new situations.

Why do the dates for zodiac signs shift by a day?

The Sun enters each sign at a slightly different time each year because the calendar year does not match the solar year exactly. If you were born near a boundary, check your exact birth date, time and place to confirm your Sun sign.

birth charts

How do I calculate my birth chart?

Enter your date, time and place of birth into our birth chart calculator. It computes the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets for that moment and location, then works out your Rising sign, houses and aspects.

Do I need my birth time?

You need your birth time for an accurate Rising sign and house placements, but not for the rest of the chart. Without it, we can still show your planets in their signs and the aspects between them; your Moon sign may also be uncertain if the Moon changed signs that day.

What if I do not know my exact birth time?

Use the closest time you can find from a birth certificate, hospital record or family memory, and treat the Rising sign and houses as approximate. If you have no time at all, focus on planets in signs and aspects, which are much less sensitive to time.

vedic

What is the difference between Vedic and Western astrology?

The main difference is the zodiac. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac tied to the seasons, while Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac tied to the stars; Vedic astrology also places more emphasis on the Moon sign, nakshatras and dasha periods.

Why is my sign different in Vedic astrology?

Your sign is usually different because the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology currently sits about 24 degrees behind the tropical zodiac. If a planet is in roughly the first 24 degrees of a Western sign, it will normally fall in the previous sign in a Vedic chart.

What is a nakshatra?

A nakshatra is one of 27 lunar mansions that divide the sidereal zodiac into segments of 13°20′. In Vedic astrology, the nakshatra your Moon occupied at birth is especially important for temperament and timing.

retrogrades

What does Mercury retrograde mean?

Mercury retrograde is a period of about three weeks when Mercury appears to move backwards against the stars as seen from Earth. Mercury does not actually reverse; astrologers treat the period as a time to review, revise and double-check details rather than a reason for fear.

compatibility

Which signs are compatible?

Signs of the same element tend to understand each other most easily, and Fire pairs well with Air while Earth pairs well with Water. That said, real compatibility depends on whole charts, especially the Moon, Venus and Mars, and on the choices two people make together.

Can astrology tell me if a relationship will last?

No, astrology cannot reliably predict whether a relationship will last. Compatibility readings can be a fun way to talk about differences in temperament, but communication, respect and shared values matter far more.

trust

Is astrology scientific?

No, astrology is not a scientifically validated way to predict events or personality, and controlled studies have not supported it as a predictive method. Many people still value it as a cultural tradition and a reflective tool, and that is how we encourage you to use it.

How accurate are your calculations?

Our planetary positions are computed with the open-source astronomy-engine library and are typically accurate to within about an arcminute for the planets. House cusps and the Rising sign depend on your exact birth time and location, so their accuracy is only as good as the birth data you provide.

Is my birth data private?

Your birth data is used only to calculate your chart and readings. Please see our privacy policy for full details of what is stored, for how long, and how to request deletion.

Can astrology replace professional advice?

No. Astrology and tarot are for reflection and entertainment, so please consult a qualified professional for medical, legal, financial or mental health decisions.

tarot

Does a tarot reading predict the future?

Tarot is best used as a reflective tool rather than a fixed prediction. The cards’ imagery helps you look at a situation from new angles, and you remain in charge of your choices.

numerology

What is a Life Path number?

Your Life Path number is the core number in numerology, calculated by reducing your birth date to a single digit or a master number (11, 22 or 33). It is read as a description of the main themes of your life.
